5 Speed gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

I want to fit a 5 speed gearbox to my 1.05 mk3. I have found one at a scrappys on a 1.3 I'm not sure on the mark its either a mk2 or mk3. Will it be a direct fit or are there any boxes out there that are differnt from the norm that i should look out for? I'm not sure on the mileage but the guy there wants £45 for it which seems a fair price to me. I just want to make sure its the correct one because i cant take it back after purchase. Also what oil should i put in it since I'm going to drain it before bringing it home.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Dan

any from a mk2 or mk3 will do. Chances are it'll be a box with the code 8P which is fine.

Thanks hayesey.

What about ratios, are they okay for the 1.05? I'm looking for low end grunt so pulling away is a tad more impressive.

Anybody lol?

I don't find pulling away in my 1.0 a problem, anything up to 40 or so could be considered sprightly, but when you change into 3rd around 50 or so, it just bogs down. I think a GT box (close ratio) could show a big improvement on a 1.0, but I'm yet to find one local to me.

OK thanks fot the replies.Ill have a look for a GT box. What is the part number for the GT box?
