The rear wiper on my Mk5 has a mind of it's own.

it starts wiping at random times.

It hasn't got sensors to detect anything.

anyone have any ideas what this is???

simple solution:

open bootlid, take off trim panel, take off wiper blade, take off motor, plug up the hole in the screen. smoooooth.

lol seriously though if its getting power randomly then the MOST likely thing is that the switch in the stalk is passing current. if a new switch doesnt solve it then it could be any other number of unlikely strange electrical gremlins but that should sort it.

My Mk3 does this as well, even after replacing the stalk...

I learnt to drive in a MK5 Polo and on the day of the test had exactly the same problem. I accidently knocked the wiper on and what ever I did couldn't get it to go off again. Reckon it is probably a dodgy switch.

i dont know why they ever put a wiper on the back as the window is pretty much vertical it doesnt get the rain on it!!!!

Had similar fault with my front wipers I changed the stalks (scrap yard ones Veedubs at Bill Quay, Gateshead Mk4 fit the Mk3 the lads told me quite a few af the mk4 parts fit as most changes were cosmtic and all the fittings still the same. Don't quote them though but worth bearing in mind!)

What I did notice when looking at the fitting there is a torx screw you can tighten (small adjustment looks all that would be needed) that seems to take up any slack in the switch gear. As my wipers got so bad any bumps in the road would turn them on then I could not get them off! would of tried torx screw on original switch gear if some ever so helpful person had not already rounded it with an allen key!!!
