Look I know this may well have been covered before, but using the search throws up hundreds of posts and I am very short of time with everything that is going on, so, Please help, If you know the thread I'm needing, point me to it.

Otherwise, here is the problem.

Mk3 1043 SPI, very poor throttle reponse at first, almost dies, then picks up, after that all ok, until, say coming down through the gears to slow down, as soon as you start to accelerate again(in any gear) it almost stalls again.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, had it it happen to them and the remedy?

Any answers greatfully recieved as always.

Apart form that small problem everything else is fine.

Could be an airleak under the throttle body. Dodgy throttle pot. Ignition timing out.

Have a look at the ignition side of things, i had a similar problem and it was the distributor cap.

Checked out the dizzy and the rotor arm, all clean and nice so not that, thanks anyway.

The car runs great once it's going, no problem with reponse then, it's just at the very start of moving the pedal, she just seems to want to die, which is why I thought fuel, but that's getting through, so, any more ideas people?

my 1st thought was ignition timing, but it could be the thottle position sensor (they are meant to be non adjustable but if you have some safety torx bits (the ones with a little hole machined into them you can undo the cover and adjust it) i had to do this when i fitted a 1.3 t/b to my 1 litre! also check the striker is making propa contact with the idle control switch other than that i dont know!

OK sounds interesting, but I don't have the safety torx bits so that out. Can you explain in greater detail about the striker? and the idle control switch, I'm at a bit of a loss about that.

on the bottom of the throttle cable bracket there is a striker pin that make contact with the idle control switch. sometime if the cable has been tightened up too much it does make good enough contact! its a bit difficult to explain without a pic of it!

Well it's fixed. Wasn't any of the above causes. Now this is a strange one, when I fitted the replacement engine I had an extra plug on the engine loom. After trial and error starting we found that it would only start using the plug from the engine loom, not the original one from the engine bay loom, detailed in another thread. So after trying all the suggestions and having a reet good look, I just thought to meself, ach, just swap them plugs over and see what happens.

It worked, no more stalling issues, instant throttle reponse. Much easier for my lad to drive now, although he had mastered dipping the clutch and revving like fcuk to keep the old girl going.

Really strange that she wouldn't initially fire up on that plug, but once running for a while (like 3 months) had to have the original one before she would run properly.

Ah well, all's well that ends well. Just got to tidy up the body work now.
