ok well my instal is all wired up but it seems when i turn headlights on the headunit light dims?

I've been told on a forum to upgrade headunit and alternator but i unplugged the subs ect today and still the same so the subs arnt caining the battery, it starts 1st time so i know battery is fine?

guy at a garage i know said it has a dim setting some cars have them that when the lights are on the headunit dims, is this true with my 1996 polo? cheers all

also what wire did those with the mk4 i think mine is? what wire did u connect the remote wire to that goes to the amp,

Most headunits are designed to dim. They take the feed from the headlight circuit.

What make of stereo is it? Generally, the wire colour from the stereo is yellow for the headlights, but this varies from manufacturer.

The remote wire on stereos is generally blue, or blue white.

my sony stereo dims when i turn my lights on but there is a setting to either have it as auto dim all the time or not dim!

have a fiddle as it maybe a headunit setting if it is aftermarket like mine!

disconnect pin 6 and all should be fine

well i have a new probl;em lol the headunit went dead when i was driving the other day so I'm gonna re check wiring and try again :( i can eject cds and put em in but thats all and then all lights go off?

Sounds like you maye have lost one of the live feeds, probably the ignition.

Did you just plug a DIN connection in, or did you wire in from sctratch?

orange wire on stereo usually...its called the ILLUMINATION wire...

cut that...job done

Id be surprised if that unit doesnt have an option to turn off the dimmer function...

look at wire 6 on the plug and see where it goes i think this is the one to disconnect.. (the connection block has wired numbers)

Wierd that the screen just went off when driving... maybe something else wrong with it too. i have a sony flip dual screen and the ribbon goes after a couple of years and needed replacing..

hi I've got the AVX1 and there is a setting under PSM in the menu. Its called Dimmer. Its set of AUTO and you need to change it to OFF. If hat doesnt work, as Tej said, disconnect the ORANGE wire from the head unit and be sure to tape it up.
