right I'm new to this mk4 lark, birds 16v seems to over rev, when you touch the throttle it is very responsive, so when you change gear, and let off throttle, dip clutch, it revs, like you still got foot on throttle, I'm guessing cable might be set too tight, but where is it lol

any ideas kids?

just doesnt seem right, I'm sure its the cable that is too tight, so when i let off *purp* it still for that second the throttle will still be partly open...

Take the TB off and give it a good clean. That should sort it.

Does it drive ok (doesn't stall or any thing when you put the clutch in?)

I've got a spare throttle body here that you can have.

car runs fine, a bit ropey when firing up, where is the t/b lol

my car does exactly the same thing it only started doing this after i took off the TB off and gave it a good clean, nobody told me the tb had to be reset after doing this (disconnecting battery didnt work) the car is booked into a delaer next week to have the tb reset to basic setting this should sort the problem, or get somebody with VAG COM to do it, nobody on here offered to do this for me could of saved me a few bob lol

Dont worry tends to do this with all 16v's.....comes and goes with them.

Its just a simple case of putting the throttle body in basic settings. 45 quid job done

got my throttle reset back to basic settings today and its sorted out my problem so get it done first nice cheap fix especially if a mate has access to VAG COM

Yea had this problem with my polo 16v mk4 after cleaning the TB. Was lucky with mine as it reset after disconneting the battery for 10-15 mins.

Seemed to go like shit off a shovel when it was playing up and you gave it some beans !!

bit lost with all this but i think my throttle body needs a bit of a clean so can i not just take it off give it a good clean and bung it back on again???

it's not an electrically operated throttle though, polos didn't get that till mk5. It's just a good old fashioned bit of cable between the pedal and the throttle.

hmmmm i must have remembered wrongly - what is there electronically on the mk4 16v throttle then? is at an airflow sensor or what, i could swear it was an electronical throttle

most likely a throttle position sensor.

I agree with it being a throttle position sensor!!!
