hi there, today i went to my car so i could fit in some new guages I've got, i looked in the rear driver footwell and it was like a mini pond!! i started to scoop out the water and then just realised you guys on here might be able to enlighten me. anyone know whats wrong or has anyone else had this problem? common fault on polos? and I've checked all the door seals and they're all intact! I'm baffled! some one enlighten me please!

if you've got a sunroof it could be the seals on that, if not then the rear light seals could be leaking, cos there is a gutter that runs between the boot door and the body of the car, and the water can piss in through there, it did it in my mk3

there's loads of water in there though, reckon you left a bottle of water open?

no mate i haven't got a sunroof. ill check the backlights later on, didnt know about them. this is the second time its happend. it only happens when it rains.

Check the seals on the windows etc, went on my windscreen and had to pay to get re glued, costly stuff.

Do what me and my bro did, get a watering can/bucket. One of you sit in the car while the other pours water all over and the other looks for where its coming in.

if it happens when it rains then its most likely the light seals, i never fixed mine, just parked it on a slope so the water couldnt run in lol

looks more like a battery tray problem to me, pull your battery out and see if there is a hole!

check around your battery, i had the same problem i think my had rusted and created a hole and it just needed filling

I'll repeat what's been said about the battery tray

If it's not any of the above, check the plastic sheeting behind the door cards. Not usually a problem unless someone has been in there and not put it back properly or damaged it.

Mine came adrift in my MK3, and I got a similar sized indoor pond when it rained.

worst case scenario - cracked floor pan? it happened in my first car (mg metro ) and the passenger footwell used to regularly fill up like a mini pond.

not sure its a battery tray as its a mark 4 by thelooks of it and there at the front of the engine bay, best bet is like whats been said above, sit inside it and get someone to run a hose over it

I've tried the hose test. nothing seems to happen. i ripped up the carpet yesterday and found that a rubber sort of 'bung' had come out. the other ones are still under this thin sheet of material that has been glued/welded onto the car. is that the fault. ill get a pic up showing it.
