As some of you may remember i crashed my car about 3 weeks ago, and i need to drain the fuel tank. but i'm not sure what is the best way to do this any help would be greatly appreciated.

Undo/cut the fuel tank outlet hose, put it into a jerry can and turn the ignition on.

well whenever i drain scrap cars, i wait till engine been pulled out, then get the fuel feed line to engine, stick in jerry can

then get a car battery, go to the rear, find the 2 wires that go to the fuel pump it comes up through the right had side of the boot

now pull back each wire, dont cut, just bridge on the battery + and - so it makes the circuit with the lift pump too

if nowt happens you prob got the + - wrong way round

then sit back and watch it come out

if its a full tank, find a car to put it in, and pull back your fuel line and put that straight into another car

all is good for the pikey fuel family

old school hosepipe syphon method?? Suck up the tube till gas is near the top then let it drop and it will all start flowing out. Not reccomended though as its quite easy to get a mouth full of fuel...

Not recommended due to getting a mouthful of fuel? How about not recommended due to passing out from the petrol fumes? And yes, I'm speaking from experience

You dont wanna go fiddling with wires on battery terminals where fuel vapour is concerned.. Simply undo the fuel line from the engine,unclip it along the floor until its long enough to put it in fuel tank of other car/fuel containers (just unclips in seconds),and turn ignition on. It'll even filter the fuel for you.

The pump aint on continuously 'til the engine is running. I usually use a bit of spare hose on the outlet of the lift pump into a jerry can and connect an old battery to the appropriate terminals. Helps if you have an offcut pump loom with the appropriate plug from another car, to minimise any risks.

I thought the pump carried on until the fuel system had primed, and it'll never prime with the pump outlet disconnected. That's what happened with my old Suzuki anyway.

turning ignition on it only comes on for a few seconds.

put a battery accross the wires, and it pumps forever.

disconnect the fuel line from the engine and use it from there if your that concerned about the fuel vapour....

turning ignition on wont work. putting a jumper accross the fuel pump relay would work but cant remember the pins off top of my head.

It definately only squirts fuel for a few seconds.

Ok soz,i unclipped the fuel line from the throttle body of a 1995 Fiesta a couple of weeks ago and filled a 10 litre can up with it pumping purely by the ignition being on. Didnt realise it wouldn't work with a VW aswell.
