hi all, bit of a noob, not to cars n mechanical bits n bobs in general, but polos!

posted a thang in general then someone replied to kick me in the butt and move techy stuff in here, so

i have a 91 gt............starts fine, runs a tad lumpy.....when it gets up to temp, sometimes, and only sometimes it loses all power whilst driving 'normally'...doesnt cut out...then everything is fine again, the car was cheap, think mainly due to this prob

drove it 16 miles to work and back today and it probably done it a dozen times max...i dip the clutch, let it do its 'thing' then it runs fine again.........

anything that these super (my opinion) little cars suffer from....any of you guys come across this?

i'm going to go down the first usual route of plugs/cap/rotor arm and leads n see if that cures it.......one suggestion has been the coil pack breaking down......but dont want to go down that road just yet.

mine was running abit dodgey, not as bad as yours, but generally not too great. idle wasnt smooth etc

just use some carb cleaner then take the car on a nice long motorway run.

I did plugs, leads, carb cleaner, oil etc and just hit 5k for about 10 minutes. Also chucked a few litres of engine flush (fuel additive stuff) for good measure

after that the car ran like a dream

if your adamant that its a leccy fault then also try re-setting the ECU by leaving it disconnected over-night.

cheers fer the response.....i'm going to try all of the above........but as a noob i will just ask? the ecu, where do i unplug it?..also

are you going to the bluewater meet on weds? I'm thinkin i might but i am quite old(36) and was wondering if it'll be all young boyeeezz!...i am young at heart tho....lol

The ECU is located on the right hand side of the engine bay, just underneath the scuttle tray -near to the windscreen.

You can just undo the -ve terminal on the battery and leave that overnight.. but I have a feeling it doesn't always reset and can tend to hold some memory...

like the bike carb idea/twin 40's route...any probz in doin this, as the fuelling is injected at the mo??
