My husband had a new clutch fitted to his 98 MK4 polo 2 weeks ago and now his speedo has stopped working and the fuel gauge is erratic.

Can anyone tell us where the gearbox speed sensor is located to see if that is the problem?

speedo is ran on a cable, simply follow the cable from the gearbox to the back of the clocks
