no idea what that is or how its done,

Could be the water pump, or the seal in the coolant tank top

no idea what that is or how its done,

Vagcom is basically software used to test VAG cars that have OBD capability, it can read fault codes and the like. It costs alot but the older versions are available free and you can get a cheapo cable off eebay which does the job, failing that find some one near you with it and borrow it.
