Just had small engine fire in an '88 1.3 CL.

Not too much damage but carb untrustworthy (may have caused fire) and air filter now melted toast.

Any ideas about which weber and filter matches this engine. I live in Ireland and can't find parts for an '88 Polo anywhere, everything has to bought on-line and shipped over.

Help much appreciated.

Take it you just want a basic replacement?

In which case a 34ich would work (not 100% on this though)..

Failing that you can use a DMTR/DMTL with the right jet and other bits and bobs, not that cheap mind.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try as direct a replacement as possible mainly to keep the insurance down, (insurance in Ireland is highest in Europe and they increase premiums for the smallest of reasons).

I'm interested in the bike carb option though, it seems a sensible option, hope it goes ok I'll look out for posts on it.

Weber UK have run out of stock on the 32 DMTR (part #1887097400 for a Polo, 1887097500 for a Golf) and don't intend to replace them. Weber North America same story.

The company who bought all the remaining Pierburg stock have also sold out of all carbs for 1.3 1988 Polos.

There's a slim chance I might get a DMTL to work with the right fitting kit, this is a combination Weber never approved of but should work if not quite as well as the DMTR.

If the above doesn't work I wouldn't leave a 600cc motor bike unatended in the Irish midlands any time soon!
