I need to remove the vertical post on the mk3 door as some clever person has looped my window regulator cable around it so I can't get it out otherwise . How does it come out? There's a bolt in the door and the screw at the top, but how does it attach to the quarterlight and do I have to remove the quarterlight too? Just undoing the screw and bolt doesn't seem to make it move (this is with the window all the way down) I also understand there's two types of quarterlight, bonded and something else.. it's a '94 M reg CL Coupe if that helps!

The Haynes book just says 'withdraw the quarterlight' or something equally useful. Any help would be great.

I'm guessing this isn't a problem for you any more, but I'm having a similar problem at the moment. The existing window channel (that's what Haynes calls it) is rusted right through and needs replacing. I got the old one out quite easily as it had come apart completely but getting the new one in is proving to be a right bitch. The fixing tabs on each end of the channel mean it won't fit through the existing hole.

I've given up for today but Haynes says the black plastic/rubber mouldings should unclip from the bottom of the window frame which I'm hoping will give more room to get the bloody thing through. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

it goes upwards from the door - quite easily actually. and is just pushed into the quarter

Got it sorted just now. Yeah, I knew it would have to go in upwards but the tab (that the screw goes into at the top when it's in place) was stopping me getting it through the gap. Luckily the moulding does just pull off (I found it easier to start from the back of the door - ie nearest the rear of the car) and pop back on again afterwards. With it off, the gap was large enough to get the top of the window channel through and then it was just a case of screwing it in and tidying up the seals etc. All that's left to do is stick some bin liner in to replace the weather seal that I trashed...

took afew of these off ! Found it was just a process of wiggling and turning before they come out! The damn things are still sat on my shelf doing nothing!
