Sorry if this is a daft question - but i really don't know a great deal about cars, so i have to ask :)

I pick my car up on Saturday & plan on getting it serviced when i can. One thing that i'd like changing is the clutch. I've only been driving since December, so i'm not 100% comfortable yet. The bite on my current car's clutch & my b/f's car is quite near the ground, but on this Polo i've bought, you need to raise it almost all the way up for the bite.

Just wondering if it's possible to ask the mechanic to alter it so the bite is closer to the ground & if so, is this a time consuming/expensive job?

In addition to this, i've found that you can push the accelerator pedal in slightly without any effect. There also seems to be a bit of play on the brake pedal too (more than the accelerator pedal) - you can push this in quite a bit before the brakes kick in, BUT the brakes work fine

Any info on any of this please?

I think you can probably adjust the clutch pretty easily but you'll soon get used to how it is anyway. Don't change the clutch unless the old one doesn't work!

As for your accelerator and brakes; if the car starts and stops, I wouldn't worry about it.

Basically all you have to do is look on top of the gear box, and you will see a sort of arm thing which swivels around when you press the clutch. You will see that there is a cable running through it, this is your clutch cable. On the end of the cable you will see that there is a nut. In order to tighten your clutch, simply tighten the nut on the end of the cable so that it pulls the cable tighter, this will result in a lower biting point.

Quite easy to do yourself, I think it's a 10mm spanner that dose the trick, the hardest part is getting in at it, because the space is quite confined.
