I've just became the proud owner of a 98 1L with a blown engine for a good price to fix up and use as my daily when i take my coupe off the road to rebuild.

My question is what are my engine options?

At this stage I'm not looking to tune the car, just get it up and running quickly and reliably.

I have done the search thing and got loads of info for future plans, but looking around for a replacement one litre its apparent i can get a 1400cc for not much more, but i dont know if its compatible with my 1 Litre components, hence this post.

Another thing to consider is that i have a complete GT set up, is this worth considering?

I also have an AEE 1.6 lump, which i know will fit-just not sure if it would be useable without spending loads on 1.6 ancillaries.

Whats the easy route?

The quick,cheap and easy route is to get a replacement 1.0 engine. Its light,as its alloy,whereas the big bore engines are cast iron. And of course its a straight fit,with only the engine itself needing to be swapped. The GT may not have the anchorage points on the side of the block. The 1.0 is an mpi but the inlet manifold is alot smaller bore than the 1.6s,the GT manifold has a different bolt pattern,so any other engine is going to require the complete fuel system to be doctored in. Besides,if you get yourself used to the 1.0, you'll appreciate it even more when its time to swap cars again..

But i have everything from a GT available to use plus is it not a similar block to the G40, thats been retro-fitted to a 6n in the past.
