Hi there everyone,

I've got s few things i want to do to the car before i lower it like fit a sump guard...

I've got a reinforced mini guard and was wondering if one of these will fit with a bit of tinkering anyone got any ideas done this kind of thing before

would have thought so, a sump guard is hardly a spectacularly complex bit of engineering

probably just as easy to knock one up yourselfs if you have a welder.

yer I've got a welder, i own a mini...... and yer its just that the alloy sheet is sooo bloody dear i thought i could do something with this? i would rather have a guide/ a few pointers before i go chopping 7 colours out of things :paranoid:

will a mini guard be big enough? i dont think so personally. you need one of the GED style brace bars on the chassis legs to give you soemthing to mount the front edge on, the other end of mine is mounted to a bar between the two TCA mounts (basically just like the VAG sump guard on ETKA).

my advice would be to make a cardboard template first. alloy sheet isnt that expensive if you know where to buy it from. i got 8mm dural sheet for mine from a place that made tipped beds for wagons try finding somewhere like that locally.

also, unless youve got a TIG welder you wont be doing much welding on ally!

Ok I'm gonna be making one soon out of a big road sign that I happened to find one day...

Got a ged bar, does your guard just bolt onto it all the way along? (how many bolts, 4 enough?)

Also the TCA mounts, did you weld on extra mounts then a bar across them? (again same no of bolts?)

All sounds fairly easy to fabricate. Devon roads + lowerage = sump guard needed!

i made some brackets that fit round the TCA mounts in a U shape with a 10mm hole (i think) that just bolts through using some slightly longer versions of the bolts through the inner TCA mounts.

i think the front edge on my GED bar has 3 or 4 captive nuts on it i cant remember off the top of my head

yer I've got a tig welder dad fitted a allo cage in his 70's racer and hes a pro at weldin the stuff so that gives him something to do lol
