Hi just wanting some info on the interior (dash) loom for a mk3 CL. Is all the wiring behind the dashboard in one piece (ie instruments, switches, lighting and radio, speakers)? If so where does it plug in, I'd guess under the glovebox in front of the passenger seat? Do all the instrument sender wires (eg oil pressure, temperature) come through this same point too?

I think I know the answer to this anyway but are they all the same? The only difference I've heard of are that the cigarette lighter wiring isn't there if the car didn't come with a ciggy lighter, are there any other variations? I don't have any extras like heated seats or adjustable headlights so that's not a problem.

I'm actually only interested in the radio and speakers at the moment, so just want to know if they're on a separate loom or integrated with the res, and where it all plugs in.

The loom is one complete unit that plugs into the back of the fusebox. The stereo wires are intergrated into the loom, though you may cut back some of the insulation.

I completely re-loomed mine,anyway. There's no point powering a 200watt head unit from the same line that powers the ciggy lighter,so i ran quality 2.5mm copper throughout. Same with speakers - standard bell wire fitted to the car,or supplied with your new 6x9s,is okay to get the speakers functional or power the standard 20watt jobs - but even for a basic 4x45w head and 200w speakers,you'll benefit from some better quality speaker cable.

Hmm yeah. I think all the existing wiring except the drivers side speaker will reach to the glovebox (well it definitely will, it goes past it) so as I'm going to have to redo the driver's speaker I might do the other one too.. obviously if I fit rears that'll be all new wiring anyway. When the dash is out I might as well, will be easy with dash out. I'll be wiring in my speed-related volume hall sender anyway (assuming my new HU supports it..)
