We changed from a VR6 to the polo as we were only getting 28 MPG out of the golf, now I have no leather no aircon and no performance and only get 33 MPG. I did think I was going to be getting 40 MPG at least, was this expecting too much?

getting around 270 per tank. with varied driving, having done a search it seems this is about right, not very economical is it? was getting around 230 from the VR6 highline DOH!

Yeah, the AFH is a thirsty lump! The gear ratios aren't exactly set up for economy!

It's the engine code for the 1.4 16v in the Mk4 Polo.

I struggle to get over 200 miles to a tank

300 miles out of a full tank, but that is because it is 98% motorway, and hardly any other sort of driving!

G40 box would probably give you better economy, geared for 155 or so I think. Probably lose a fair bit of performance though...

33mpg is absolutely ghey for a 'modern' mpi engine...

it really varies with what sort of driving i do. i get 240-270 miles to £30 usually but if you do motorway crusing i can achieve about 340 to a tank!
