hi all i want to change my polo coupe spi engine to a polo gt mpi engine has anyone done this on here and how easy is it to do do i just need engine and use my gearbox or do i need gt gearbox and do i need fuel pumps and lines? any help and pics will be apreciated cos my spi is too slow lol it tops aut about 90 and its the 1.3 so maybe its time for he gt lol

And yes, I think you'll find the GT swap has been done before, perhaps a search would have helped. You can still use your gearbox if you want but the close ratio GT box is the best bet. You also need the GT fuel pump and engine bay wiring loom. No doubt a few other things but that will get it running.

hi tobyk it was on a private road wink wink but it int fast enough lol my mate had a polo cl with a gt engine in it and he had 115 need it was still going lol so i want to do it now lol do i need to change the full loom cos i thought they wos the same

I changed my engine from a spi to a gt only because the engine was really cheap and my old engine was nearly dead. To do a full swap you will need

Engine with the gearbox if you can get it.

Fuel pump

Full wiring loom from the fuse box to the engine bay and ecu.

You can use the exhaust from the spi but the bore is smaller.

If you dont know the history of the gt engine when you get it i would do a full service on it with a new cambelt and water pump.

Just reading back on the original post I think somebody needs to give their 1.3 a damn good service, check the fuelling, timing, get some injector cleaner etc etc. A 1.3 shouldn't top out at 90...
