Does it make a massive difference. Got the charger in garage just wondering if its worth investing in fitting kit or not.

I think Tav was looking into this a while back. Might be worth giving him a PM or something, unless he sees this thread. I think the basics were you can run more boost on a standard pulley than you ever would with a G40, in theory reducing the times between rebuilds, but then someone else wasn't too sure. The thread might still be around if you do a search...

You'd be very much mistaken if you think you'll get better reliability from a g60 charger. The main reason g-laders have a reputation for being unreliable is because g60s are fragile. The design is basically the g40 charger stretched out so they tend to be weaker. Plus a tall block G60 engine is somewhat slower revving than a g40 engine, when you put a g60 charger onto a g40 engine they often fail because of the quick-revving nature of the small stroke g40 engine.

You will make more boost though, Richie-K used to get about 1.6 bar from his. Which is about half a bar more than you tend to get with a g40 charger. You need to be careful that the engine is able to supply enough fuel to cope with that extra amount of air though, plus the stock map sensor will give up at about 1.2 bar.

I'm not saying leave it, it's a good way of getting more power. But don't think it'll be more reliable or even as reliable as the G40 charger.

These days, the way to get the best of both worlds is to use a modern turbo. The recent advances in turbo technology means you can get turbos with little lag, lots of boost and good reliability. The problems you'll run into is keeping things cool as turbos generate a lot more heat than a supercharger. Start off by looking at a K03 turbo. It's definitely not a bolt-on conversion though, expect to have to do some homework and research.

If we weren't greedy we'd all still be driving stock G40s, so don't give up that easily. Best bet (or at least what I prefer to do) is to read some books before you start collecting parts and starting to build your engine.

You'd need to get a hold of a suitable bracket from a company like SLS tuning to mount the charger.

A 74mm pulley apprently gives 1.1 bar of boost which is plenty to be getting on with. Because of the higher boost pulley sizes can't be too small.

You need to decrease the back pressure on the charger by freeing up the intake system. Ported charger, FMIC, 51mm throttle body, GT inlet manifold, ported head and a suitable cam would be a good start.

The charger sits really close to the exhaust manifold so it is more susceptible to higher booster temperatures and perhaps some other side effects. Perhaps able to get around this with heat wrap or some good ventilation.

Running extra boost it would prob. be a good idea to go for the 1341cc forged piston conversion from PSD which is a fair chunk of cash. There is so much that needs changed to get the G60 charger in there and running well.

I'd go for the turbo if you want more power...or tune the G40.
