Bought my Mk1 a month ago. When the lad i bought it off got it off the previous (registered) owner he signed and filled in the V5 and then took it away with him to send off himself, but he never did.

Therefore, i have the document, but its signed and filled in by the guy i bought it off.

I was going to tell the DVLA that i had never been given the V5 by the previous owner and just sent the slip off. But i dont want the previous registered owner to get a fine through, when he trusted the guy i bought it off to sent it himself.

Confusing i know.

My question is this then:

Should i send the form in with the slip, and say i was never given the V5?

OR

Should i send the form in with the slip, and say i signed the V5 etc, and the previous owner hasnt sent it off?

Or should i just say i lost the v5, and pay the £25

That would be pointless.

I have the V5, its signed by him though.

Unless i could just Tip-Ex his details out and put mine in.
