Officially, the mk3 version has 55bhp. The mk2 version has 64bhp with no cat. This difference seems excessive, so I'd say the cat'd version is probably more like 60bhp. (by comparison a 3F gains 3bhp de=catted according to book figures)

I must have a really healthy 1.0 spi because I can do a 95-100 even on a slight uphill!

It's the 1.3 MPI. Engine management wise it's half way between a mk2 carb engine and a mk3 GT engine. It has 1/2 of the GT stuff (injection side) and half carb stuff (ignition side)

Don't believe everything your speedo says, my mk2 says I'm doing 100, but my rev counter is only showing 4K, which is about 85mph with 165/65/13 tyres on an 8P box. That's a pretty bad over-read, but I imagine alot of polos will be similar, especially with the smaller tyres everyone seems to be fitting these days.

How do you work out the speed from the rev counter? I think mine is pretty accurate because 6500 in 3rd is 83 and is that not right? From a 4 speeder.

As I said, 95-100 on a slight uphill isn't too much of a problem. But I would like to know how to be able to work out my speed from my rev counter. What is the mph per 1000 rpm in 4th on the 4 speed Mk3?
