hi there, i have a 1996 polo1.6cl, geabox is shagged and I'm having trouble finding one from a 1600, anyone no if a 1.4 mk4 or an ibiza box will do, mine has manual adjust clutch cable, and 1 rod and 1 cable for shifting, any help would be great as needed on road asap.

have you priced up how much yours is going to cost to be repaired? just as another option incase you cant find s/hand

s/hand stuff is ok but you never really know what your gonna get

At the end of the day, its going to have some sort of guarantee on it when its done, theres no telling how long a secondhand one is going to last is there?

Are there any checks you can do on a secondhand unit?

mine was 600 complete rebuild and new clutch... and they collected and dropped off my car

Wouldn't have thought other boxes would go in easily... Rebuild.. only takes a day or two

what you mean by shagged {noisy} or totaly jamed up if its just noisy bearings get it rebult if you want to keep the car a while put secondhand in if not planning to keep it long.

if its jamed up the bearing has probably come apart and minced gears so probably not worth a rebuild as too expensive to replace gears.

there should be a sticker in the boot with paint code gearbox code ect on it{wasnt on mine} or it will be in your service manual failing both these phone your local vag dealer as i did and get your code then phone breakers with your code they can match to what they have 1.0 1.4 ect you may get lucky and find that others will fit.
