Is this item discontinued at VAG? Mine is leaking (think its cracked) so I thought i'd replace it along with the thermostat and the black and blue temp sensors while I'm at it!

pretty sure the G40 one is the same as a Gt one

last time i when to VW to buy one (for my GT) i was told they were discontinued

but.....i managed to make one for a SPI fit by removing the white plastic insert from inside it and capping off the two tails that go off to the inlet manifold

pshears - dont cap them off - i did and one shot off at 100mph on the m1 - smoke everywhere!!!!! use a pipe between the two if you must!

They have not been discontinued, only superceded by another part that is identical barring the captive nuts are missing and you have to order two self tapping screws from VAG to attached the thermostat enclosure cap.

My parts list for VAG looks like some kind of demented G40 wish list!

the mk2 g40 thermostat housing is different, and pretty rare. but the mk3 ones are the same as the rest

no they aren't the same - spi ones have tubes for inlet manifold heating - these are fully blocked off (not capped) in the g40 gts

i think the gsf ones have the tubes for the inlet manifold, but they are blocked off as part of the mould, so you can drill to open them up

the self tapping nuts... i bodged mine with a pair of tiny nut and bolt
