ashley exhaust trouble....

Featured Replies

I have just purchased an ashley competition exhaust system for my mk2 coupe S. It is meant to be a direct replacement, or so i was told. The centre section and the Back box all hang ridiculously low and they just look stupid. Plus when you drive the exhaust moves around and just generally looks a mess. Has anyone else had similar problems?? I mean it sounds good and feels fine, looks are important though and its just nasty......I would have sent it back, but my friend who fit the thing did the best he could and that meant causing some alteration to the product thus making it impossible to return. What can i do to get it more tucked away? Anyone know who can sort out the problem? What can i do to make the thing more stable? I mean just to stabalise it more would help for now. Until i can afford to get a new exhaust or sort this one out.......Anyone know anyone around leeds that is good with exhausts? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

what kind of hangers did you use?

I just told my friend what car it was and the exhaust i bought. I asked him if he needed anything else and he was adament that he had all the bits and know how to fit it.....Moral of the story don't listen to your friends.....They lie......Unsure what hangers were used is the answer then. What should have been used cos i am going to have to take it back to him? What can i do?

i had the full system an they fit shit!!

Jetex

or Longlife....

(not really a helpfull post!)

If you have hangers re-welded by some pros and they use the correct rubber mountings, they should be able to get it to hang a little better.

i mean i would get another exhaust but i am just about to go away.......can't really afford to buy another exhaust......must be a better way to get it to fit?? Any specific garages get them to fit better for me.....Ashley systems are obviously a bit of a joke.

urban racing

they custom make exhausts and deal with this every day with ALL exhaust manufacturers (sp*)

easily fixed dude and their only in st helens.

Bit of a trek like but its an easy run and easily worth it.

you can't see my exhaust at all even if you look from the side :D

also thought i would add that i have had 2 extra brakets added on both of my polos by urban and the first one i caught a group of kid trying to jump on the tail pipe and they didn't even bend it :D hahahahahaha

St Helens is not too far at all.....Thanks for the info. How much they charge you to sort out the probs you had? What brand exhaust did they help you with or did they just make you one from scratch? I have the exhaust and it is actually ok apart from the way it sits is terrible. Don't want to have to fork out for another when this is only days old....

get some pics up of how it is now.

i've got an ashley system on mine, its not too bad, i only had to add 1 bend in the manifold, the rest wasn't that bad.

Sounds like either ashley have sent you the wrong exhaust, or your friend has fitted it wrong.

I have thought the same....if it is the wrong one then i'm screwed as i cant return it now as my friend altered the product. It may just be fitted wrong.....well i hope. I won't be letting my friend do me any more favours. Although saying that he has been good with everything up until now. I am at work so i have no access to pictures of my car.

You can see the centre section of the pipe hanging low from the back and from the side. The exaust tip sticks so far out at the back......looks like i have a cannon mounted its that long. I need someone to alter it. My car is standard suspension and i was looking to get it lowered as soon as possible but now that is not going to happen anytime soon unless i can get somone who knows what to do. I really am not qualified to start trying to alter anything major myself at the moment, yet learning all the time ;) Picture of yours is how i want mine to sit. At the moment its no where near. :-(

if you have the back box with the real long tail pipe then its the wrong one for a coupe, i think thats for a saloon.

They sent me that one aswell, but i sent it back before fitting it.

You will have to cut the tail pipe off, shorten it, and reweld it back on.

F**K.....my fears pretty much confirmed. My luck is so bad. I can't frickin weld LOL. I even spoke to the guy who was supplying it and he said that it was definately the correct one. He lied alright. My friend just made it fit the best he could but obviously if it is the wrong one then he should have just realised. Cutting! welding! I am so pissed :x Why can't things just be simple with crap like this. Well back to the drawing board on the exhaust front. I am too poor right now to be buying a new exhaust. Cheers for the help and any more will be greatly appreciated.

well it is only the back box which is wrong, cant you just clean it up abit and send it back? they are after all in the wrong, not you.

where did you buy the system from?

It came from Ashley xompetition exhausts through a site called POTN. I bought a full system though? Will it just be the back box that is wrong? If so i will see if i can get it off and send it back. I dont know if anything was altered on the box though? I will look tonight. Otherwise i'm boned. Poor, loud and with a cannon hanging out the back of my chav looking mk2. hahaha was mad pretty previously as well.

yea it will just be the back box that is wrong.

I have had so many problem with Ashley stuff! The manifold isnt exactly the best of finished (and works alot better when heat wrapped) and the pipework never seem to be the same - even if you order 2 systems together there are always differences!

Plus they are designed for pre87 mk2 polo floor panels, so if you have later than an 87 then you have to fit an extra central pipe to get the bend to go round the fuel tank - same goes for mk3 polo fitting.

I have had a system fitted to a G reg MK2 Coupe and it hug crap until we modified the stupid bracket on the backbox so that the 2 mounts crossed over eachother the inner mount and rubber was on the outside of the backbox and vice versa. Plus My mate has fitted a Manifold and a ststem to a mk3 GT, bo problems with the manifold other than the Lambda nut had to be welded in and after the longer front pipe arrived then it fitted better but not perfectly. He now has a Jetex centre section and thats sorted most of the things out!

you can only just see my exhaust if you look at the side of my car its that high up, mine was all custom made in 2" stainless

will get some more pics up soon to show you the extra brakets.
