My boot latch was loose and caused the bootlid to judder about, have a look at that.

THANKS ILL CHECK THAT OUT TONIGHT

You don't need to shout - we can read it perfectly well!

Erm, have you got a toolbox in there??

Otherwise check the bootlid as toby said, and maybe its worth checking that the noises aren't suspension related?

Anything rattling about in the spare wheel well?

also check the fuel pump/filter carrier is not lose as i had an annoying rattle from the rear of my mk3 and it turned out the rubbery mounting bolts had split and the pump carrier was hanging by the fuel lines and was bouncing off the floor and spare wheel well , hth

Gav

Check behind the trim panel in the bootlid itself. My old volv had some stones in there somehow.

Those little black bits that hold up the parcel shelf on mine, one of the screws came out and made it rattle. quite a common thing i've heard

The boot lid itself (as tobyk suggests) and missing trim clips for the panel on the hatch door have both caused annoying rattles on mine.

have you looked at the rear wiper motor?? one of my dads old volvos had a loose wiper motor and it sound LOUD, try checking that

On each side in the boot at the rear corners there is a recess at the rear of the wheelarch. Is anything down there?

The rubber foam bits between the boot lid and the parcel shelf are missing in my car which makes the shelf bump up and down

na my boots strped to the shell like.

I'm now thinking maybe its the boot lid hinge pins they look worn but i all i know is annoying ! :crybaby:

Can you recreate the noise when the cars not moving i.e. get a mate to jump up and down in the boot while you listen for the noise? Worked a treat to locate my suspension noise.

had an identical problem..did the same stripping and it turned out to be the boot latch...literally all i had to do was screw the little rubber bunges on the corners out half a turn. worked a treat.

looks like a really cool motor mate! good buy! i get a funny squeek/rattle but am sure thts from the parcel shelf... it could be your xhaust the rubber bands that hold it on stretch and u'll find that it'l rattle a little! might be worth a look, there only bout 3quid from the vw garage always go vag its not really expensive and its always the right stuff!

thanks guys il take the info on board and have a look at everything tonight
