If I was to leave my bonnet in a pool of salty water tonight is it adviseable that I should keep my car in a garage or waterproof my engine. I'm going for the rusty rat look with it? cheers.

If anyone has done this before could you post up some pics :-D. and does anyone know if you can get a metal boot plynth cos that would be cool to rust up. also just to double check, there's no law against making your bonnet rusty right? and would it still pass an mot or should I get a seperate bonnet to do this and just swap them round.

no surface rust is fine, just make sure if you end up with any holes that they dont leave sharp edeges, although it might take a while for that to happen. if you do get holes, you can always cover them with duck tape.

some people have done rusted bonnets and boot lids before, but just having one panel on a cars done like that looks odd.

cheers mate. the car isn't exactly mint anywayand I might try to do the roof bars and the lttile bit under the grille. but not sure I'm brave enough.

get yourself some bleach and vinegar and mix them 50/50 (whatever you do donot breathe in the vapours from this)

get some wire wool and drop it into the solution then hoist it out with a stick and drag across he area until it is completely covered in the solution and within a few days u will have instant rust bud

right when i did my mini bonnet and boot i rapped wood around the area and gloed it to the bonnet soo there a bit of a lip then i poured diesel petrol and redex (all i had at the time that was flammable) and lit it... and these are the results i got... after all this was burnet off i poured salt and vinegar all over it so that it would rust some more... after 1 night it looked like this...

the next one i put the hood ride sticker on just for kicks lol

I've never heard of anyone doing this before, in a strange way that does look cool, laquer it and a thumbs up from me....

well you could always have an engine bay that looks like its been set on fire......

.....but its just natural wear and tear on my car, without the aid of sanding paintwork down and using salty water :lol:

nooooo cant lacquer it... that finish I've got is only step 1 you need to fit it and let it rust some more over time
