Took a look under car. seems as though it needs another exhaust mount fabricating near the 'S' part of the exhaust in front of backbox as the old one (if it was one?) has snapped and the whole system wiggles too much for my liking.

Is there a good place i could anchor it to the underside of the car? Obviously not through the fuel tank ( i ain't that dumb!) Whats the best gear to use?

You dont need a mount there. If the exhaust moves about too much,check its fitted properly. It shouldnt be able to twist at all,and the rear hangers should stop it from moving sideways too much. They do move a bit,though.

Try replacing it with a new back section, new clamps and some new rubbers. I tried loads of things when mine kept sagging and the only thing that worked was a new backbox section, new hangers and some genuine VAG rubbers. Rubbers are a bit pricey for what they are (£3 + VAT each IIRC), Clamps are about a pound from halfords and I was lucky enough to get a brand new backbox section for £5 at the scrapyard.

Guessing it was knackered, they put it on for the MOT and it failed its MOT on a load of other stuff and it just got weighed in.

don't really want to replace the backbox if possible as its off a motorbike of some shape and description and i like the way it sounds. should i strengthen the front mount then? will this make it stiffer?

and a lookie underneath and my worse nightamre was confirmed. The exhaust was fitted by a real cowboy! The front mount is attached to nothing and theres some kind of wire holding it up near the backbox! the rubbers are helping but thats about it! Gotta b e changed for the MOT as theres no cat convertor.

is it the hanger on the exhaust thats bust or the one on the shell?
