I took my mk3 to get one side of it sprayed this week because there are a few dings and dents...so i thought I'd ask if he could blank off the side repeater while he was there. But he said that if side repeaters come on that year of car that it will not pass the MOt without them....is this true? and if so how have the people who have done it got past the MOT?

its a grey area as the mk3 has wrap arround front indicators. some will say you can see the light from the side and some wont. It just depends on the opinion of the MOT tester

yes it is true.. cars fitted with them as standard have 2 have them I'm affraid.

run the wire into the engine bay and at mot time just open bonnet n run the wire down the wing n blue tack on!!!

no they don't have to have them fitted, but the light from the front indicator needs to be visible just from near the back of the car. As standard mk3 front indicators dispurse the light, it can be argued that they can be seen. if you have crystal in-pro mk3 indicators though, there they arn't visible from the side.

Again this depends on the MOT tester. I beleive it is a fact that if you have the wrap around type indicator, even on a car that has side repeaters, you can do away with them. It's all to do with the E number on the front indicator lense. That needs to be confirmed, but I know of at least 8 guys(and gals) that have done this and had it tested, questions were asked and answered and they passed, it is not illegal to have them removed if you have the right front indicator lense.

Once again it's education of the MOT tester by our good selves, common sense will prevail in the end

at MY mot testing station I'm being told I've gotta have them.. because they were fitted as standard it means that they are missin. whats the point in arguements? lol.

just explaining that there ARE ways round it.

contact ure local mot testing station n ask if they will pass/fail it. far tooooooooo many grey areas

i think if your car is pre 1986 side repeaters are not required. my 1985 golf didnt have them and passed all its mots

mine passed last month with no problems and it is a 92 bloke didnt even notice that i had them removed until i told him and he said that if he could see the front flashing from the rear quarter panel then it was fine
