I bought this one of the bay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1

but I cannot get it to work...I do not know which wires to use to connect the ones they have provided too. Does anybody have any experiences with these? Or know which wires I am looking for and have to cut?

Right I have seen these before they are cheap modules and possibley require external relays to get them to operate. A quick way to tel is if they provide 4 wires to connect to each window lift switch ie. 8 wires in total.

This is because the mk4/6n is a dual switching electric window system...in laymans terms this means when you press the switch it provides both live and ground feeds to the motors and when the switch is not pressed the switch contact rest at zero rather than ground or live.

In short if the module only provides 2 live wires or 2 ground wires you'll have to take a line off those and use relays to convert the feed to the opposite if required.

I found the space behind the window switches quite limited so I bought a Laserline closure module for approx. £40 which provided me 4 wires per switch and all the relays are on board with microprocessor control and thermal switch to sto the windows when closed it's a far superior unit to the one in the link and well worth the money for an elegant and effective solution.

could you not make it a permenant earth?

I don't think so as the permanent earth will surffice the modules function of raising the windows when commanded by the alarm but will be a problemn when you try to put the windows down in the car as it will cause a short because of the earth being there and positive being fed to the motors.

The window switches are dual feed switching in both directions ie. for Close both neg. and pos. is switched and for Open neg. and pos. are reversed.

I fitted a Directed (Clifford) one myself...and i had to use a couple of 5pin changeover relays as well (you can just use one but i was being extra cautious)

I got mine off eBay Brand New... I would advise against buying used as the thermal switches may be screwed or other problems.

The model you're looking for is the Laserline 824 IIRC.
