took the polo out this morning, didn't notice that anything was wrong when I started it up, but about 5 mins into the journey I noticed that the speedo and tacho were reading zero and the clock & mileage displays were blank :(

the car still seems to be fully functional otherwise - alarm, lights, wipers, PAS, radio, etc all seem to working.

the only thing that seems to be working on the cluster is the indicator and main beam lights (circled) - everything else is dead. none of the lights come on during the pre-flight checks (airbags etc) - see pic, ignition is on.

any ideas what's wrong peeps? I've tried disconnecting the battery and that made no difference. only things I can now think of are that something has become disconnected at the back of the cluster, or that it has died.

check your fuses, my mate has same problem think hes comin round later today so itll b first things i check later.

yeah, just checked them - 26 & 27 seem to be ok...

ok have done more investigation...

the fuses are ok. they are 26 & 27.

#27 also does the interior lights so I was able to test both fuses using that as a guide.

also took the clocks out today to check the connections. there seems to only be one multi-pin plug which locks in (and was). so unless I've missed something there's no prob there.

any thoughts or shall I start looking for a replacement set of clocks?

try you are luck with a VW breakers... there was a 16v in a yard near me but thats going back a few months... i was tempted to have the clocks as a spare or trial set but the place is extortionate with their prices

You have to have 16v ones, because the 8v clocks only go to 120mph and redline under 6000 rpm, whereas the 16v clocks go to 140mph and redline at 6800rpm.
