Best wat to do chequered paint

Featured Replies

I cant figure out whats the best way to do it. I dont want big ones, prefer small ones. Would i have to mask each square out using masking tape (can see it that taking a long time) or is there any other way to do it??

hows about painting a section white say and then getting a sheet of vinyl and cutting 2" or 3" squares out of it and stick em on ?

paint the section white, then go to an art shop and buy black square sticker sheets and stick them on the white section

go for some viper stripes from ebay... get them for about a tenner... yu can get 150mm wide (most sets are) and they will be perfect for larger ones or yu can get thiner ones (like a clio sport) if yu want smaller squares. just a matter of chopping up.... plus yu get 8 metres worth so thats easily enough to do a roof or 2 ;)

i like your thinking, just the viper stripe would be good enough, would have to be off centre though

don't you have any sticker shops near by???

Edited by uberfukz

so do they normayly have vinyl? and what b+q was it in a small branch or a huge one?

well i,m sure I've seen it there before they even have stick-back chequer-plate vinyl (prob for corsas or summat) anyway the one in kidderminster is quite big but i dont think its a super b&q? have a mooch on there webshite

look what i found !!!!!!!!!

clicky for fablon

cut up into 15.5cm x 15.4cm squares :D

stuff is dark mettalic grey... nice color it is.. sort of really smoked grey with silver sparkle through it 8-)

since I'm doing them diagonally i will need about 30 to cover the roof from side gutter to side gutter and from front to back :D but seeing as i have a sunroof i should only need about 26ish :D

just need a nice day to put it all on and pictures will be up straight away :D

well guys its done :D

started out with viper stripes as in above post :D

bit of butchering turned nice long stripes into some neat squares :D

armed with a tape measure, a ruler, a craft knife and a hairdressers spray can i ended up making some shapes :D

then after a few hours and a couple tantrums later ended up with these :D

few pointers for all that want to do it...

1. plan ahead - make a day of it. make sure yu have a good 2-4 hours spare... its takes time to prepare cut shape and plan... yu make also take longer than expected like me as i sort of buggered up which leads me on to my next point...

2. plan your route of action... - lay out all the squares yu have and make sure they are going to work first... dont jump in head first....

3. make sure yu have good tools - i used a craft/stanley knife, a ruler, a hairdressers spray bottle and a ruler...

4. ignore most of the application instructions - i got my spray bottle and filled it up with water and added a little bit of fairy... shook it up and ready to go.... to apply yu spray a couple times onto the area making sure yu cover where its going to be placed and more.... peel off the backing and spray the sticky side once from a reasonable distance... slap it on and slide about... use the ruler to squeeze all the excess water out and mop up with an old teeshirt or somthing... then keep going till your finished...

5. dont worry if it all goes boobies up - if yu applied the bit and its crap yu should be (i say should be but its not the same for everyone) okey to peel the square off and start again assuming yu placed it within the past half hour.... my car is 16 years old and it didnt take any laquer off but bear in mind differant cars mean differant things...

6. pretty much most importantly - be calm and take your time :D

hope this helps anyone who wishes to go down this route :)

any questions fire away :D :D :D

Loooks awesome Cuish... You done a mint job there sir!!!

I'll have a swatch in person soon! :-p
