well was giving the connections around the car a blast with the good ol' wd40 last night, and i lightly tugged the king lead on the coil end basically to see how tight it was and it just snapped leaving the end stuck inside the coil. it had corroded inside? i had to take the coil off and fight for about an hour to get it out. luckily i had a spare one but they're only 4 months old, from vag.

why?

and is it my right to have the set replaced under VW's 12 month parts gaurantee??

whilst I'm on. its ok to give the alternator a spray with WD40 right? around the connections?

Probably faulted, although this is something I’d have expected from cheap aftermarket parts. When you tugged it, you did have a hold of the boot on the end and not the cable? Either way, I don't think they should have been corroded or come apart so easily. If you just explain that to the dealer, I’d say there's a good chance of having them replaced FOC.

Probably won't do them any harm, but contact grease may last a bit longer, but it's not as easy to apply as WD40.

well i defo pulled it at the boot and to be honest i hardly touched it thats why i was so surprised. i was spraying the connections initially because I've had a funny idle which has been bubbling a tiny tiny bit and annoying me. well I've found it lol cos its spot on now. so one bad thing solves something afterall. ill be taking them back tomorrow and trying to blag a fresh set.

Good good. If there's a weakness in any of the engines electrics, then the weather we've had recently is almost guaranteed to find it. Although it could have been the faulty lead, and nothing to do with the damp.

Yeah, I think it'd be wrong if they didn't exchange them. Let us know how you get on.
