tappets and oil

Featured Replies

tappet noise when starting. not much to worry about i dont think as it goes away when the oil has run around her a bit but just wanted to check if this was normal enough. and 90deg is a normal running temp.

Do you mean you hear it all the time at idle/low revs but can't hear it when under hard acceleration? The injector can be quite noisy at times on my 1.0...

no its just at idle but will dissappear completely when the engines reved.. as a side point my average temp is around 90 what would yours sit and a does it heat up a lot when stationary?

90 seems alright yeah, and yep mine heats up a fair bit when not moving. Your fan kicks in alright yeah?

oh yes...thought it was pretty normal for a veedub but compared to most cars thats a rediculous temperature.

my old mk2 used to do this, i think its to do with the viscosity of the oil. and when its really warm its really thin and watery, therefore the tappets will knock because theres less lubrication

thats what i thought anyway

Change the oil, to a good semi-synthetic 10w-40
