type identification with VIN

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new year so please let me know whether that’s the right forum. I’m the proud owner of little blue (blue polo registered in 96) but that’s pretty much as much as I know about it. I assume it’s a 1.4 but might be a 1.6. I know it’s a petrol. Is there any way that I could type the VIN into a database and get a description of my car back? And if not what other ways are there to identify the exact type.

Thanks,

Crabby

not that I'm aware of, the VIN number is more of a chassis identifier I thought, so wouldn't have things like engine size encoded into it.

There is a search on the RAC website somewhere that you type the number plate into and it tells you some basic info, but it's not always that accurate. Would probably know the engine size though.

Also, welcome to the forum.

Have you not got the V5?
