now then just a quik question to all you with 16v's what is the normal running temp?? it says in the manuel for it that it ranges from 70-110 but 110 seems far to hot...

any help apreciated

not sure about the manual but mine always sits in the middle of the gauge, just had a look its 90

i think 110 a bit hot, I'm running a 2.0l 16v gti ibiza 6k and hasnt really gone above 100 even when i push it, I've had a 1.4 6k ibiza and i dont think that was as hot as my gti. hope this helps, sorry if it didnt.

I did wonder why it doesn't budge a smegging inch whether I'm blasting down the motorway or sitting in a traffic jam. The gauge on my old golf used to go up and down all the time.

running temp on mines 90! makes sense that the gauge only shows your warm up temp but dont think it should be running over 110!

true, the gauge sits at 90 when actual coolant temp is between 80 and 98, coolant temp on a mk 4 up to a mk 7 shouldn't go above 98 degrees.Dash gauges aren't accurate at all!!!!!

mine only runs at the 90 when idling and when i drive around even when i give it somestick mine stays around 70 even sometimes moves in to white bit before !!

3 positions: cold, normal and overheating

thats all it does...jus so the customer has 'some' idea of whats going on but doesnt know too much

Would be good to see what temp the water gets to. I know my oil has never been over 100 though.

if your temp is showing more than 90degrees on the gauge then there is something wrong with the thermostat.

i changed the whole thermostat housing, sender unit and thermostat on my sisters 16v yesterday as her car overheated in traffic when the temp went to 110degrees.

its not uncommon for the thermostat and thermostat housing to fail on the Polo engine!

thanx for all the advice... all sorted now did the cambelt yesterday and changed the water pump and it seems to be ok it sits at 70 most of the time.

mine sits at 90 will drop to 70 when I'm just cruisin.

bit of a rant then it just sticks about 90

but speakin to a technisian during my mot weather he was just a crazy old man i dont know but he said the newer VW's just run really cold n its quite hard to get em to overheat lol
