G40 not starting

Featured Replies

I cant get my mk3 g40 to fire. Since the engine rebuild I had her running but had a fuelling problem. SO with virtually new fuel system I then put her back together but now she refuses to start. As I said prior to fitting the new pumps etdc she would run but now she tries to start but just wont catch???

Any ideas

Ben :-(

simple but couldnt be the battery could it?

are the fuel pumps priming when you turn the ignition on? Have you checked for a strong spark by holding a plug against the rocker cover and getting someone to crank the engine? Take out the fuel pump relay when you do this so you don't flood the engine. Also hold the plug with a pair of pliers so you (hopefully) don't get a shock from it.

Yup fuel pumps are priming... I've tried 2 coil packs as well...

King lead ??? have you got spark out of the coil??

I had a similar problem with my G a few months ago, wouldn't start, had fuel but no spark from the coil, turned out the ecu had fried and was'nt putting out the LT current to the coil.If i were you i'd plug your ecu into another G and see if it starts up.

If it works, at least you can eliminate the ecu.

I wouldn't put another ecu on yours to test incase there's a wiring fault that caused your ecu to cook (if thats the problem)

hope you sort it!!!

No, TBH I'm not going to get to the car till tomorrow. I've not checked for decent spark, however have fitted new dizzy cap, rotor arm, HT leads and W5PDO plugs. What could be causing a shite spark???

Coil/Dizzy

Your timing could even be out (my favourite diagnosis atm lol)

have you plugged the correct wire into the coil?

There's a very similar plug next to the coil! Common mistake to make as they're very similar!
