mk4 16v temp sender location

Featured Replies

is this the temp sender ? (ringed in red)

it only cuts out once from cold every now and again before it reaches temp, but the missus sometimes drive it and she's giving me proper ball ache to fix it.

I assume it's the same as the 8v one to change it? Haynes is a pain in the ass not doing a 16v manual.

ta very much.

no you are either circling the oil pressure switch or a hose for the EGR system in that picture

the temp sensor is further back from the circle and goes into the big plastic part into which all the engine hoses connect.....its pretty much directly under the part where you can see the HT leads runnin next to each other

ok.

I assume the red arrowed part unclips with the shiny clip and then the temp switch is the yellow arrowed part which comes out when you remove the big U shaped circlip,at which point water pisses out unless i clamp the big pipe?

spot on 8-)

but dont clamp the big pipe...as it goes down lower you'll only lose the coolant coming out of the engine anyway
