i remember a while ago, i spoke to my insurance company and told them i had a set of wheels for my car but they wasn't worth a great deal, they said, i can put them on, but I'm not covered if they are stolen... which i agreed to and slapped them on! no increase in premuim! just ask the question mate, find out for sure...

You could always not tell them, if you crash and they wont pay out, refer the case to the insurance ombudsman, who will decide whether your wheels were a contributory factor in the accident. The insurance company will at that point then be told to shut the fuck up and pay out, given that shiny wheels dont cause crashes.

Are you being serious? It has nothing to do with the crash or what the wheels are like, the policy is subject to the car not being modified, so if the car is modified then the policy simply doesn't mean a thing.

I think the ombudsman would tell you to shut the fuck up (not you personally, the person complaining!) because the policy will state clearly that the car must be standard.

My mate did exactly this about 2 months ago, his car was totally non standard, covered in stickers, peco back box, K&N filter, lowered, big alloys etc. They refused to pay out after he was involved in a pile up on the motorway, he refered the case to the insurance ombudsman and his insurers were told to pay him out. None of the mods were a contributing factor to the accident. If you follow exactly what the insurers say, my standard GT would be classed as modified because it has an SPI distributor on it. (I haven't got round to changing it yet)

Thats quite good to hear actually, but how do you go on with the police side of things, I thought not being declared was the same as not having insurance?

I was told if you get VW alloys, I.E the optional extra ones you dont have to declare them.... true or faulse?

That would make sense...might be worth getting a pair of vw alloys if it's true!

Its not anything to do with causing crashes its the fact that with alloy wheels it makes your car more likely to be stolen by the little chav and his mates that sit in their saxo while while you are in tesco etc lol

If the Car was Originaly sold without alloys and you add some what ever the make you should declare them as the car has been modified from standard.

The loon came with allys from the factory, so I declared them. didnt make any odds to the policy (NFU). Unfortunately, they accidentally got sold with Spearsons polo (long story!) so its currently alloyless. I'm gonna replace them with a set of (standard and subtle) BMW alloys, and just keep quiet. After all, the insurers never asked what the fatory alloys looked like! the beemer ones are a similar style anyway, just bigger!
