My car is fine when warm or been running for more than 2 mins - but am finding myself having to push the throttle for a minute or 2 when starting the car to retain the idle...

Can I clean anything or replace anything to help with this?

It is the 1.05 SPI engine...

Have you got the warm air feed from the exhaust manifold connected, or the vacuum pipe onto the warm air valve connected? Then again, that probably wouldnt make much difference until 45 seconds or so of running.

The above & mine ran better cold on the 3 pronged plugs than the cheaper single pronged ones

check the vacuum sys carefully for leaks as the idle control switch runs off of this. there is a striker pin below the throttle cable holder that needs to push a button in. if the throttle cable is over tight it doesnt make contact causing the car not to idle. the 1.05 doesnt have a very complex system so it can only be a few things that could cause such a prob. the other thing i would check is that the exhaust doesnt have any leaks

That's a good point, I pulled out some cheap shite single pronged champion plugs from my Polo when I bought it and promptly replaced them with triple pronged NGKs and cold starting was far better.
