Engine sounds rather unhealthy

Featured Replies

About a week or so ago now i fitted a Golf 1.4 throttle body to my 1.05 spi. Once it was fitted and after a couple of nice long drives the car sounded sweet, felt nippier and i was well pleased.

Then it got to wednesday night, jumped in my car turned the engine over and was like "hmmmm doesnt sound good" it was rumbling away fine but on top of the rumble i heard like a light tapping sound.

Since then it gets worse everyday and when you accelerate or the car is underload, going uphill or whatever I have the meaty growl i want but also it sounds like there is a little gremlin in my engine bay tapping away with a little hammer.

Anyone any ideas on what it could be?

check your exhaust aint blowing. they make a fine array of different noises. especially if its under load.

Iv just had a near enough complete new exhaust fitted, the only part that aint new was the cat section that just had its internals removed then put back on the car.

Cats with the internals junked can sound odd. Maybe the garage didn't weld the cat up properly after opening it up?

the joints can still leak ;)

Spot on boys, found a couple of blows on the old part of the exhaust.

Cheers :D

I wish mine was the exhaust. But i know its piston slap. The low oil pressure light didnt come on soon enough. Baffled sump this time,then..
