I would be looking for authetic bbs rx's but i have heard that they suffer from laquer peel, and i don't really want to go along the route of trying to get them refurbed. Also getting authetic ones would hurt my bank account more.

The replicas are wider (7J) wiv et35, would this be ok wiv a 60mm drop all round on a 6n2 with 195/45/15 tyres?

I have also been looking at ronal turbos and some rondell wheels but again these are both expensive. I dont really want any thing that stands out, but makes my car look better overall, any other suggestions? or anyone got some wheels that would look good for sale, that arn't very expensive?

The GTi replicas rubbed on a 60 drop with 195/50 tyres but were fine with 195/45. The wheels clear the calipers fine, so you won't have any issues there. Rondell 58s do not have such a big dish in 15s, if you want to see them on a mk5, Phil_GTi had them and you can still find his pictures on UK-POlos. As regards to Ronal Turbos to me they seem to be overdone, out of them all I'd have gone for the Rondell's as they are exquisite and you do not see them often about.

by the way, did you recognise your old lights and flaps, didnt have the backbox fitted when took the picture. but its on now :-D and your new gti looks very nice.

as far as i'm concerned, i wouldnt touch replicas even with yours!!

mate had some rs6 replicas, and they bent so easily, every bump bent them pretty much!!!

stick to real ones!!!

and for a black mk5, tyou can do better in wheel terms than those 3 choices!!

iv got the exact gti replica wheels featured above.

personally i think they look pretty nice on my car (6n2).

my car has been lowered 60mm on the front and 40mm on the rear (although i think its lower).

originally i had 195/50/15 tyres on them, and they rubbed on the arches alot (the car was not drivable). i have now changed the tyres to a 195/45/15. they do however still rub slightly albeit nowhere near the amount they did. the occasions they rub are when i go into a bump in the road too fast or something like that. i think i can live with that tho. the places they rub are on the outside of the tyre against the outer arch. i reckon that if the arches were rolled slightly or if i got a tyre which had a less square shoulder then there would be minimal rubbing (or i could just raise the car up a bit, but i dont wanna do that).

also, in response to your question about whether or not they would fit under your car if you lowered in 60mm all round, my resonse would be yes on the front (with a touch of scrubbing), maybe on the back (but i dont think you could have any people in the back).

davelondon, thanks its just want i need to hear, i didnt want to go and buy them and find out they are rubbish. If i do go ahead and get them i will def go with 195/45/15 tyres. To be honest i think i have 60mm on the front and 50mm on the back so should be fine

by the way, i got my wheels cheaper than the price they are advertised at. also, someone on here is selling a set of oz superturismos for £250. i reckon they could look alright on your car. to look at them, go on the for sale section of this site. the person selling them is called rocco-jocco.

i live near where the company is based so i was going to go down to their shop/warehouse see if i can get some money off, as postage isn't required etc, but won't be alot off

i got them from wheels uk - the same place as where you posted the add up from.

i got them for £400 + £30 delivery. i dont think thats too bad for a brand new set of wheels and tyres. its just a shame that i didnt think to the future with regards to lowering the car. i even had the option to get the 45 profile tyre, but ended up gettin the 50 profile. its also a shame that i didnt discover this place before i purchased them. i love the fact that some people on here can be so helpful.

aint even heard of those alloys before (first ones), but i can imagine them looking so good once refurbed. alot of time and work would hav to go into gettin those looking good, well worth it though. something def to consider but refurb wiv my own ideas hmmmm. you have got me thinking. cheers for the inspiration

yeah some pictures would be great. yeah everyone on here is wicked and you dont have to ask many questions cuz u know someone has already asked it, just need to search for it. Bet you were a bit annoyed when u relised you should of gone wiv the lower profile. The tyres they come wiv are they any good, or just budget?

i love my old school second hand rims, thats all my car sees!

those estoryls (fire and ice) ones are easy to re furb! nitromors the face, sand down 2-3 grades to a good smooth finish, hammerite them with the satin finish and sweet!!

make sure you mask of the lip, then just polish that!

2-3 coats of laquer, and sweet!

the sandin can be done with a hand held power sander,as are flat faced!!!

inner bits can also be masked of so that would be polished!!!

i've had 4 sets of P slots, 1 rallye set, 1 porsche set, and 1 vr6 set!

all old school and from somebody else, not brand new!!

You have definately got me thinkin and searching ebay. bet its going to be so much easier on the bank account and unique this way, just need to find somewhere good (and cheap) to fit the tyres afterwards. it would give me something to do over the summer months aswell. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i got round the problem easy and cheap enough tho. i purchased a set of part worn 45 proflies just to see if they actually done the job, which they did. so at least i know i can now go and buy a decent set of tyres and i wont have any major problems etc (although a brand new set may have more tread depending on the pattern etc, so i may actually get more rubbing for a small while untill they wear down a bit).

the tyres that came with the wheels that i purchased from wheels uk are a make called fullrun. I'm assuming that most of the wheels they sale come with those tyres. its almost like they throw in the tyres for a small price just to make that extra bit of money out of you and make you think you are getting a better deal. in reality i reckon those tyres cost next to nothing for them to buy.

to be honest, i dont know a great deal about tyres, but i will tell you what i do know about the ones that came with my alloys. they are called fullrun, they have a nice treat pattern, they are an all weather tyre, and they have a 'v' speed rating. i cant remember where they were made, il check for you.

i cant thankyou enough for the advice tonight, yeah i reckon they would get them in for very cheap, but payin just that little bit more, saves on having to pay for tyres and fitting somewhere else, even if the tyres provided are crap quality they are still usuable for a little while. going to have a little search around the web for "fullrun" tyres, get a little bit of info about them, but from the info you provided they look like they should be fine, thats if i decide to go with the replicas.

my suspension is quite soft, so when i go over a bump it may rub. i reckon that if i actually had a stiffer suspension that didnt bounce down so far, then rubbing would never be an issue.

so i guess suspension is another factor to take into consideration with regard to rubbing etc.

mine is solid as a rock (I'm just thankful i have soft seats),the only way i can get it too move is take sharp corners at speed or carry alot of weight in the back. good thought though, cheers

yeah seen a set of them on ebay, did think about it but what profile tyres do you have to run to make sure there is no rubbing or very minimal rubbing? and whats the price of 5 stud to 4 stud adapters?? and where can you buy them from?? (sorry for all the questions)
