Got a kaput CV joint which needs changing before it gets on my nerves or generally stops working! IS it just the case of whipping the brakes off, the hub and changing it over?

I'm not mechanically minded so go steady with your replies!

better off taking the drive shaft out mate, undo the hub bolt and remove the alen key bolts from the shaftend then gently tap it out from the hub with a screw driver & mallet. Then you can change the joint easier, just make sure when your tapping it out the inner joint isnt lined up with the gearbox. Also makes it easier if you have the wheel on full lock.

Removing the driveshaft is more hassle than its worth imo. Just push the strut out the way a bit so you have fair clearance (undo the antiroll bar at the front,and track arm at the hub to get it out the way) and give the joint a good clout from behind at the most comfortable angle. But before you do anything,undo the centre hub bolt first. Thats before you even jack the car up or remove the wheel. This is the tightest bolt on the car,and you wont undo it with the wheel off. You'll need a bar aswell - you wont get it undone with a ratchet.

Hehe, i found that one out the other day! I've gotta get a mobile mechanic out to have a look at whitey (gf's car) so i'll see if he can do it while he's about! Although i bet the bolts on my genesis are better than on the fox!

Ughh i can hear the sounds of shearing ratchet teeth . I pulled a simular trick at my collage, ended up forking out for a new ratchet lol.
