what car are you talking about and what are you actually trying to achieve?

If you mean shock absorbers with shorter piston rods then you just need to buy some. If you actually want to shorten the length of the strut housing on a mk1/2/3 polo then this is possible if you have a decent welder. A good reason for doing it is so the steering arms are also lowered so they remain as straight as possible. You'll need to use mk1 golf coilover inserts then as they are shorter. but you will also run into problems with the top of the piston rod being the wrong diameter for a polo top mount.
