Engine conversion

Featured Replies

I've been offered a scrap valver for peanuts (i say scrap but its not too bad, just rear ended) and was thinking of putting the engine into the hustler untill next year when i go for 2 more cylinders shaped in a V 8-)

Would it be worth it or should i just get a GT engine in there???? a GT one should sit on the mounts allready there shouldnt it? and then its just wireing yeah?

What are we thinking guys?

Cheers 8-)

If you need to do wiring anyway then why not go for the valver? You only need one mount modifying don't you?

Really? just the one? coolio 8-) i hope so, can anyone confirm this????

Well, even if you do have to modify more than the one mount, it'll be worth it..! get it in there.... it's a different conversion to the usual!

I know yeah, but its only untill next year, its not really worth the effort for one year??????????

Saying that, i`ll probs crash it within weeks like the polo :lol:

Is it an AFH? If it is, I may have it off you if you decide to get a GT for it instead!

A year is plenty long enough to warrent an engine transplant!

Not sure, how do i find out? where is it stamped?

Yeah you may be right, but i`ll be doing it myself and going with the valver is scaring me if I'm honest

If it came out a Mk4 16v then it's an AFH. I'm pretty sure one mount is different and one mount isn't used or something. I don't know for sure, would be helpful if some other people read this thread

The small block engine only uses one mount - but the valver uses anchorage points on the end of the block, whereas you'll need a quality bit of welding done on the side of the block to add the third anchorage point there, and use that instead.

Its a great little engine and it'll seem a shame to rip it out in a years time. You can use the Golf box,or you can use the valver box, bolting the two gearbox mounts to it with ease - but you'll need to convert the electric speedometer sensor and shift remote for the items from the Golf box. 16v clutch and fly,in either case, are ideal.

Fueling? Well,to give its best, this zesty little engine really needs a set of.. :D

Don't think the golf engine has a mount there. The mount is at the back of the block at the bottom, so there may not be any mods needed as the mk3 golf small blocks mount the same way as the mk2 Might need a 5-speed gearbox mount from a later mk2 but otherwise you should be fine.

Which would also make the wiring a piece of piss... That's a damn fine idea.
