Featured Replies

helloooooooooooooooo all :)

polo 16v 6n

so I'm about to buy some cams now i would go about buying the best

cams which is like track day cams and supposibly at low revs the engine

throttle response is poor but i think whats the point of just buying like

street racing cams (1 stage up from the stock)

question to anyone who change their cams advice please!!!

also ploblem with a gearbox i would love to have a sports gearbox

quicker 0-60 but the stock gearbox is ok. plus haven't even seen a

place that sell sport gearboxes.

anyone with a sports gearbox help me plzzzzzz!

help to a new polo owner (3 days)

Fitting new cams is always an exchange rather than a direct gain in power. A high lift long duration cam may give big top end performance but your car will be a pain in the arse to drive and unless you only use it on trackdays you will wish you hadnt bothered. People usually only go to stage 1 because GTi cams will already be fairly wild for road use as VW will have considered what is an acceptable idle on a road car. A sports gearbox will be an absolute fortune, though someone with a little more knowledge of the 6n's than me can probably tell you what gearbox you could fit for closer ratios, but again it will make your car a pig to drive as you will be changing gear all day, and you will get dire fuel economy (and a headache) on the motorway.

Rather than immediately going for cams and a gearbox try and improve on areas that can relatively easily be improved over stock. Some headwork and a 4 branch manifold would see some gains over stock. Speak to poloace or one of the other chip guys on here about a performance chip to make a bit more power. Improve the induction somehow, a new inlet manifold with ITB's instead of a single throttle body would again see decent gainswith only a little loss of low down drivablility. See what other people say there are probably some decent mods that get over some design faults that liberate some power. I dont know as I dont own a 6n GTi.

Gearbox wise, the valver box has some pretty damn close ratios as it is, and is geared low. If anything I'd want taller ratios

thanks for the reply the individual throttle bodies is a good idea BUT i was thinking about

a turbo aswell and i wouldnt know how to set that up with itbs i think I'm definily gonna

change the cams probably stage up but the gearbox looks like its gonna be stock

reason for all of this is because i brought a engine so I'm gonna do all the motor mods now

i was also thinking about gasflow cylinder head but it didnt interest me that much. i will bore

out the valves on the head though. i want bhp I'm not bothered about mpg or anything

like that

by the way this is a 1.4 16v (dohc) 100bhp

I'm trying to mod it so i get 160bhp+

so does anyone think I'm mad yet?

Sorg do a 165 kit, it contains, throttle bodies, Weber ECU, 4-branch, flowed head, 256 cams and 1,6l crank

If you are going forced induction, you need uprated rods, and a stack of gearboxes

also lairy cams will not go well with a turbo imo

right so you say that after i just purchased a cylinder head throttle body and a ecu

but the kit sounds interesting BUT i have no idea what your talking about so where

could i purchase this kit (sorry for my unintelligance but i got a reason why I'm young

lol)

thanks for the help again

cheers

also i brought the ecu for £75 (bit expensive dont you think)

gearbox £250

cylinder head £125 all prices exluding vat all 2nd hand

what do you think about that did i get riped off? FEEDBACK plz

also cant find a wiring loom anyone got some advice on that like alternatives ie will

different engine code wiring loom fit the ecu ect

how old are you, remember you gotta insure it to, unless its strictly track day

with forced induction you can ghetto tune it with 2 head gaskets, ( or however many it takes to lower the compression ratio) i dont know poo about the technical bits on polo 16v, so you'll have to wait for someone else to help you with that bit.

Forged pistons and rods are the expensive part

18 will be exspensive to insure but not worried about insurance or mpg i just worry about parts for now

piston kits are exspensive which is a bummer but its got to be done

2 head gaskets now thats new to me good idea and cheap :) might do the mod only concern would be that

it might be more easier to blow the engine (gasket) this is my opinion dont know if it would be true
