Mk3 GT in a Mk4?

Featured Replies

I'm wondering how easy (if possible) it will be to swap my mk3 GT engine into a mk4 polo. Any help much appreciated. :-)

come on somebody must have some idea. :(

the gt block is similar to the mk4 1.4 8v engine, so there would be no point in fitting it. in fact a lot of mk3 gt owners use the 1.4 to build bigger capacity engines with more torque! you would probably only need to fit the injection system, but i dare say a few people will slate me for even suggesting the idea! there are some bits worth swapping over from the gt, but i cant remember which bits! the gearbox would deffo be worth fitting as it has closer ratios

well I'm figuring what if i got a 1043cc mk4 polo (possibly with a knackered engine) could I swap my entire gt engine and box into it?

if it's an early mk4 with single point injection then it's not too much work (as the wiring is more similar to a mk3). But you still have to make a top engine mount.

It's a pointless exercise though, if you want a 75bhp mk4 polo just buy a 1.6 8v and get more torque (esp if you get the later MPi one).
