The cooling system pressurises when hot. Yours has got a leak somewhere, obviously, but its always going to be near the gearbox because thats where most of the external system is. Good news is that its not sounding like the radiator, but one of the pipes instead. There really is only one way to find this leak, and thats have a good look. Get the engine running, open the bonnet, get your head in there (keep your fingers away from the radiator fan or it'll chop them up and there'll be claret everywhere) and follow all the pipes that go from radiator and coolant tank. Soon as its leaking,it shouldnt take long to work out exactly where its coming from. Then come back here and tell us.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the work done on the exhaust. Probably one of the hoses or pipes got knocked.

check where the thermostat is, that mass of pipes coming out of the cylinder head to the radiator. theres a small O ring that might have gone. mine had and it cost pennies to get a new one!
