Right, i currently have 2 P reg 1.6 glx mk4 6n polo's sat on my drive, one with a smashed up body (which i shall call P1), and one with a blown up engine (which i shall call P2), can you guess where this is heading?

Planning to swap the good engine into the good body obviously, have all the tools and whatnot so it shouldnt be too much of a problem (plus a highly expert father ) But, if my memory serves me right, i believe polos switched from being single point injection to multi point injection in 1997, I'm certain that P2 was originally multi point, but i suspect the engine from P1 which i'll be using is single point. My question is this, will the car run fine if i dont bother switching the ECU's over?

I'm having trouble trying to decide which ecu to use, to compound the problem, P2 has air conditioning whilst P1 does not, aside from that and the possible injection issue i believe everything else is identical.

So what should i do? Swap the ecu from P1 to P2, or leave P2's ecu in place and try and use it with P1's engine? Will this even work? Does what i'm saying even make sense?

To summarise, does single/multi point injection and the presence or absence of air conditioning affect how the ecu is programmed? (my guess yes??) If it does, i will have to make the choice between either having P2's ecu which will handle air con, or P1's ecu which will handle what is likely single point injection? Obviously the injection is more important than the air con for me so will my a.c unit just have to lay dormant?

Any help would be much appreciated!

if i were you i would fit the mpi system to the good engine and keep the aircon. i dont see any reason why you couldnt? you wouldnt be able to mix and match the various bits of injection system, its either one or the other. i would have thought the aircon would be controled by a seperate box of trick and not the ecu, but i could be wrong!

right, both engines are multi point, celebrations!

Does this mean i can leave the ecu in the car with the duff engine and just stick my other engine in with no problems?
