As the title says.. Whats the difference between the mk3 coupe and bredvan, apart from the shape? I.e, exhaust, axel, brakes etc etc..

The tailpipe length I think is THE only 'mechanical' difference between the two. However, I stand to be corrected!

Coupe tailpipe is shorter. If your putting a coupe box on a square you just need to chop the tailpipe down and clamp a down turned section onto the end or else the exhaust will melt the bumper. If its a squareback one on a coupe just cut it down to the right lenght, or do as I said before with the down turned.

So its defenatly only the exhaust thats different?

Just the back box, upto the back box it should be the same.

I've got a coupe back box on my square, I cut away part of the bumper and turned the back box round so it clears the bumper. Tucks up nicely.

I believe the pre-facelift cars are the same exhaust,i guess a difference in bumper made them change the tailpipe on later cars. Also,the front C.V joints. How random is that? They're bigger on the coupe. I think this depends on the era,but my coupe has the smaller squareback hubs,and i have to remember this when buying C.V boots.

mk3 squareback is a couple of inches longer due to the curved out tailgate apperture when comparted to the curved in one of the mk2s and possibly the mk3 coupe as well. Model for model they have the same mechanicals.

CVs depend on the driveshaft thickness, the later thicker driveshafts need different CV boots as the centre hole is larger on them. Not many mk2s had the thicker shafts, possibly only the 2G (1.3) and the late spec HZ (1.05) engines.
