suspension installation...got stuck at a point, need help

Featured Replies

hey there polo pals,

i finally got my suspension parts today and i just got started about 30 min ago...

now..

what i did so far with the front suspension, was remove the two bolts that connect the bottom part of the shock/brake assembly.

now the only thing left is that bolt on top that you see in your engine bay!

problem is, the thread spins with the nut if i try and loosen it (thread as in the center core of the shock)

errr

is there a way arount this? i dont want to bust out the 'vice grip'this early, but even then I'm not sure if thatll work

thanks guys

You need to put an allen key in the middle of the nut and then undo it.

yea need a deep dish spanner, allen key and a lot of wd40. right pain in the cock

Or usually if you put a shit load of weight on the suspension. IE have the car sat on the ground with you sat on the wing its usually easy enough to just crack it off with a swan neck spanner.

I always undo the top mounts first then work my way down as they can be a slag if you leave them till last.

if your changing the shocks just wang some mole grips on the strut as far up as you can than they will lever against the inner wheelarch as you undo the top nut

or as above if you wanna keep em nice!
